Your Final Period is Not the End of Your Story
Mar 08, 2024By 2030, the world population of menopausal and postmenopausal women is projected to increase to 1.2 billion, with 47 million new entrants each year!!
You can expect to live a third of your life after the onset of menopause. That’s a possible 35 – 40 years!
Menopause is a crossroads, a time to rebirth yourself, change your focus, and start exploring your own needs more. It’s an opportunity to return to your dreams, resurrect a rusty career or start a new one, focus on your health and wellbeing, go on a pilgrimage, travel … whatever your heart desires.
In addition, the transition to menopause can also be a time of reflection and inspiration. Although transitions of any kind can be inherently difficult, many women experience a newfound sense of freedom and anticipate personal growth.
Let's change our thinking from the scary reports that the media puts out there on women going through menopause and embrace the changes.
Here's a few tips on making perimenopause and menopause a positive experience:
- We all know the physical symptoms can be extensive and debilitating but there is so much we can do, test your hormones properly with a Dutch Complete, check your nutritional bloods, take the right supplements and herbs and work out if you need HRT. I also check gut health, blood sugars and stress levels to really support.
- Make a choice - we can either face it with resentment or we can make a choice to support ourselves through making it a positive experience.
- Mindset, mindset, mindset - I can't stress enough how important it is to support yourself or seek help with anything past and present that arises during peri and menopause. I support so many women through menopause teaching mindset skills to turn things around to make it a positive experience. - Stay Connected - it is said that women bond together through menopause and the more you stay connected with your friends and loved ones - through laughter and support will go a long way to get you through.
- Reawaken your purpose - I find so many women have spent their lives being busy taking care of others that all of a sudden they have forgotten what makes them feel alive! For many women, menopause is a time of redefinition of roles, interests, and reawakening of purpose. It is also often a time for reflection about where they have been and where they are headed.
- Make time for yourself - By combining positive thoughts, exercise, eating right and incorporating relaxation into daily life, many women are changing the menopause experience for themselves. Learn to meditate, do a yoga class, go for a walk in nature of spend time with people that make you laugh.
- Educate yourself on what's happening - we are the masters of our own bodies and the more informed we are, the more we can take control of our lives. Trust in your own intuition about what maybe right for you.
- Stay in the moment - this is happening, we cannot turn the clock back Try to be mindful of each and every moment of your life. This practice prevents you from worrying about the future or dwelling on the past. You are here right now - live your life in the best way possible.
So I challenge you to dispel the myths of menopause, I invite you to be a force of wisdom, love and inspiration. Menopause can be precarious and painful, but it can also be filled with the potential for generative goodness that women, and the world need!
